New Backbreaker Preview, Video Game Design Details

Our friends over on Pastapadre recently gave us the heads up that the popular UK gaming magazine X360 just published a four-page preview of NaturalMotion’s buzz title Backbreaker, which includes new video game design details and screen captures never before seen. Along with the new images, we learn that Backbreaker will feature up to 2v2 game play (incorrectly stated in the preview as 11v11), defensive players can be switched live during the play and NaturalMotion CEO Thorsten Reil’s willingness to collaborate with EA in the future, if the situation is right

“We’re not ruling anything out. I think Madden’s approach is very different to ours. They’re understandably recreating the NFl experience, with everything that goes on around it, but also on the field. We’re very much focusing on what it feels like to be on the field. If one was to make more of an overview approach and shoehorn Euphoria into that, for example, that might not actually give you the benefit that the technology brings. So I think it needs this very focused, on-field experience that we have…”

Release for Backbreaker is scheduled for May 18th, 2010, which is a date that is awfully close for so little quality information to be available. NaturalMotion still has time, however, to entice more serious players as X360′s preview stands to be just one of many in the football game’s planned media blitz heading up to release. Who knows, maybe they’ll even give us all a video game testing career? We can only dream.
