Madden 11 Swagger is Pure Personality

Earlier yesterday we broke the news to you guys of a new rating found in Madden 11, known as Swagger, or “SWG” for short. While many other sites have been speculating or reporting this as a “confidence” rating of sorts, another Madden website has been able to contact EA to clarify once and for all what the rating does. The answer, is all in the personality.

Players Like Maurice Jones-Drew Should Have Plenty of Swagger

Madden 11 swagger personality

Per a Community Manager from EA Tiburon and even Ian Cummings, the new Madden 11 swagger rating is not a confidence or composure rating at all. It doesn’t have to do with game performance in clutch situations, and it doesn’t try to reflect any kind of quality of play. The rating, as we’ve learned, is purely about personality.

EA Explanation: The “Old Spice Swagger” rating determines the likelihood of a player to celebrate on the way to the endzone, or after a touchdown. For example, a running back like Adrian Peterson (99 rating) has a greater tendency to celebrate than Frank Gore (50 rating)… Not sure who started that rumor or speculation [about confidence]. It’s purely a set personality rating.

Ostensibly, the new rating is essentially the return of the old “celebration” attribute, and seemingly only impacts such. While some fans were prematurely excited at the concept of a confidence rating, others were upset with the idea, so the confirmation that swagger is merely a celebration trait should be treated very differently by both halves of the community.

It is a bit odd, however, that the algorithm for team swagger ratings produced by Old Spice earlier this year, will have essentially nothing to do with the rating by the same name for individual players in Madden 11.

Are you disappointed that Swagger is just celebrations?
