While the news is still preliminary, early reports are that fans will be able to enjoy the Madden 11 demo much more than expected this season. Five times as much, to be exact.

Just moments ago, notable sports gaming site Pastapadre reported on their Twitter from E3 that no longer will Madden fans be subjected to one-minute-long episodes of football gaming trials. Instead, this year’s Madden 11 demo will feature full five-minute gameplay.

If true, this recent change of strategy by EA would show a resurgence of confidence in its flagship football game. Allowing players to play a full game has been missing in football game demos for a few years now, however with the NCAA Football 11 demo impressing players with its robust team selection, and the Backbreaker demo introducing gamers to real-time physics, it’s not entirely a surprise that the Madden 11 crew wanted to push forward with a better play-test experience for consumers.

Another big reason why the demo may be longer this year, may be due to the introduction of GameFlow. With GameFlow, games are expected to “flow” by much quicker than normal as there’s less fumbling around in the playbook, and more action if you so choose. Combine this with various tweaks EA has made to cut down on “filler” time between the action, and all of a sudden five minute quarters begin to make much more sense. EA doesn’t want to give off the impression that GameFlow is too quick and doesn’t immerse players in the action, so this may be the standard for the future for as long as the feature is in place.

How happy are you to see the return of five minute quarters?
