Madden Tips: Turbo-Blitzing

Madden NFL is all about pressure; if you can get to the QB fast enough, you can force turnovers and disrupt even the best of passing gurus. In the Madden video tip Turbo Blitzing, we’re going to show you a great addition to your Madden tips collection to maximize your blitzes, and ultimately save you from exposing yourself.

• I’ll Follow You Anywhere: A little-known fact in Madden NFL 10, is that by holding down sprint and the A button while on defense, your defender will actually go into an auto-lock mode, where the CPU will take over and either revert to his zone if he’s playing one, or attack the player with the ball if he’s blitzing. This comes in handy in moments where you want the CPU to take over momentarily, but you don’t want to lose track of the player entirely. This is a quality way to run down a scrambling QB in the event that they break containment on your initial blitz, or to quickly switch your focus to the RB if you notice a hand-off in development. Your friends will think you are using madden cheats but really you’re just using the controls they give you with these new Madden tips!

    Very basic tip that many of you may already know. But I felt it was important to add it to our database for those that don’t.

    In this auto-lock mode do you need to move the left stick at all? Or does just holding the right trigger + “A” button cause the player to move on his own?

    The player will move on his own. However it might be wise to use the left trigger while in auto-lock because once you let go of the lock you want to be in a rhythm of moving still. You wont impact his direction but it’ll be an easier transition once you release the lock.

    You actually don’t even need to hold down sprint (just A). But I advise to do so because when you let go of A you want to be reacting quickly.

    I feel like I’m playing a different game from you guys, this doesn’t work either on the PS3. If I hold down the “X” button which is the PS3 equivalent of the XBOX 360 “A” button, nothing happens, the guy just stands there. If I hold “X” + right trigger, same thing.

    I thought the “X” button to help your man get back on assignment if you were manually controlling him and got out of position. On the PS3 that’s all it does, and if you hold it down, the player just stands still.

    What I was hoping for was that it sort of acted like a “run commit” for one player. I tried it on a FS in a deep zone hoping he’d react to a running play immediately if I held the “X” or “X” + right trigger, but the FS kept dropping into his zone regardless.

    It actually does function as somewhat of a run-commit on the 360.

    @chels I know what you mean, its hard to find good help these days. People now days just don’t have the work ethic they used to have. I mean consider whoever wrote this post, they must have been working hard to write that good and it took a good bit of their time I am sure. I work with people who couldn’t write like this if they tried, and getting them to try is hard enough as it is.
